Siding

Vinyl Siding

Vinyl siding is the number one siding material used and is available in a seemingly limitless range of styles and colors to create a unique personality for your home. Vinyl will not rot, peel, dent or show scratches, nor will it ever need painting and is simple to clean. Vinyl is pest resistant, keeping insects like termites from infesting your home. Vinyl decreases year round utility bills due to its remarkable insulation, while keeping your heating and air conditioning inside where they belong.  VA Exteriors proudly offers Mastic by Plygem and CertainTeed vinyl siding.

Fiber Cement Siding 

Fiber cement siding is comprised of portland cement, silica sand, cellulose fibers, and water, creating a thick, long-lasting siding. Fiber cement will not ignite when exposed to a direct flame. Its exceptional durability will resist damage from even the most inclement weather, including hail and hurricanes. Created to withstand damage from moisture and rot and is also unappealing to woodpeckers, termites and other pests.  James Hardie is our trusted manufacturer for all of your fiber cement siding needs.

There is a variety of telling signs that can help you determine whether you need new siding or at the very least, repairs. By regularly inspecting your home’s siding, you can get a better picture of its overall condition.  Here are a few common things to look for:

​

  • Increased Cooling & Heating Bills: Low-grade wall insulation together with underperforming siding could be the cause for excessive cooling and heating costs. 

  • Warped or Rotted Siding: If the under layer of your siding  feels soft or it has started to rot, you have found a definite indicator that your siding must be replaced.

  • Loose or Cracked Siding:​ Broken, loose, or cracked pieces of siding are due to age or storm damage. Replacing them will prevent water from seeping behind the damaged pieces. 

  • Color Fading: Fading is a sign that the sidings waterproofing has run its course. Sun, rain and snow  are what primarily causes the colors of your vinyl siding to fade, with direct sunlight being the most damaging. 

  • Mildew, Fungus & Mold: Any growth on your home’s siding, particularly near the seams, might be a sign that water is passing through and being held in the wall. The effect of this pooling is mildew, fungus, or mold. 

  • Bubbling: Bubbles under your siding are a near guarantee that water is being trapped behind the siding.

  • Holes:  The most disastrous issues come from pests that burrow into wood siding, destroying the effectiveness and aesthetic appearance of your siding. 

  • Inside the Home: While not immediately obvious, loose wallpaper and peeling paint are both signs that your siding is faulty. With poor siding, moisture can seep underneath the outer layer, where it percolates your wallboard.
